Leads and manages the Human Resources function of Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards which is comprised of estate vineyards, grape and wine processing, cellar operations, barrel warehouses, and tasting room/home place. Current employee complement consists of approximately 25 salaried, 75 hourly and up to 100 seasonal employees. Ensures the recruitment, hiring and development of a diverse, highly talented group of employees. Serves as performance and leadership coach. As a member of the leadership team, serves as a business partner and advisor in all people matters, including succession planning, performance management, and employee development. Ensures that the structures, policies and processes for the competent management of performance at all levels are effectively implemented. Fosters a culture of respect, engagement, teamwork and continuous improvement. Ensures the effective and efficient implementation and administration of salaried and non-union hourly Human Resources policies. Responsible for effective collaboration with the extended Human Resources team to meet short and long term business goals. Promotes a shared understanding of organizational values and operating principles.

Basic Function:
• Hire and train and develop employees at the site include developing the processes to support these areas. Engage with labor contractors to ensure seasonal operational levels are sufficient.
• Administer plant policies to include EEO, attendance, employment, safety, general human resources procedures and other practices and program administration as required.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Identify and deliver training programs to support the organization.
• Lead Performance Process for hourly and salaried employees, including merit and bonus administration for the plant.


Employee Relations
Establishes and coordinates with Corporate Human Resources the execution of employee relations strategies and activities supportive of current employee environment. Provides the access and daily contact for HR resources, questions and decisions. Develops plans and provides timely communication about HR priorities and progress. Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering policies and helping resolve work-related problems.

Workers’ Compensation
Responsible for workers’ compensation claims management for Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards. Work closely with BF Risk Management and Case Managers to monitor progress of lost time or modified duty cases and facilitate return to work. Participate in claims reviews and provide input on strategy for case closures. Coordinate on-site investigator visits, represent company at hearings and/or trials as necessary. Responsible for monthly recordkeeping and OSHA reporting on an annual basis. Work with legal counsel on complex cases.

Responsible for the management of all recruitment efforts for Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards, for salaried employees coordinating with the Talent Acquisition Group. Reviews and oversees hiring practices and polices including recruitment, interviewing procedures, pre-employment process and new hire orientation, ensuring company’s compliance with corporate policies and applicable employment laws. Work closely with Corporate recruiting and hiring managers to develop and plan recruitment strategies. Create internal and external job postings. Screen applications, arrange interviews, and verify employment references, process background checks, schedule pre-employment testing. Conduct new hire orientations for regular and seasonal employees; maintain applicant data to comply with AAP and EEO guidelines.

Responsible for selection of and contract negotiations with vendors for temporary staffing, drug testing, and pre-employment physicals. Review contracts with Corporate legal department.

Work with managers to determine and review equitable hourly compensation adjustments for hires, promotions and relational increases, harvest rates, etc. Prepare hourly merit adjustment and rating files, distribute to managers, collect and review proposed adjustments with HR Director, General Manager and departmental Director. Review overall merit proposal versus established merit budget. Send final approved upload data to HRIT for processing. Participates in the Wine Industry Compensation Survey, provides validity of job descriptions, relevance of positions included, increasing participation, etc.

HR Compliance
Lead efforts in area of company policy and procedure issues, researching policy information, make recommendations on policy content, edits, evolution, updating handbook policies. Utilizing corporate and legal resource, prepare policy updates, arrange for approvals, distribution and training. Lead Handbook maintenance efforts in updating, establishing format, translation, printing and distribution.

Maintain master tracking documents for Payroll Tax and related SSA projects and discrepancies. Work closely with Corporate Payroll Tax department and Global Payroll Systems Manager to review and resolve discrepancies, audit data entered into Workday, track progress, prepare notices and deliver to employees. Review overall audit results on a quarterly basis with PR Tax Analyst

Prepare HR data and review with outside auditors for HR Environmental Audits – part of Sustainable Winegrowing Handbook. Review findings, determine and implement corrections to any items which are out of compliance.
Ensure completion of monthly new hire audits. Review and approve employee requests for tuition reimbursement, general and safety footwear, and safety prescription glasses. Prepare and submit responses to federal and state agency inquires such as unemployment insurance, state disability, OSHA, etc.

Monitor employee driving records by maintaining the Employer Pull Notice Program. Review invoices and code for payment. Ensure company bulletins boards are in compliance with State and Federal laws.

Budget & Headcount
Work closely with Finance and to estimate HR spending needs, by category and submit for budget preparation. Review prior year spending, anticipate future year needs and spending, make recommendations for anticipated spending. Manage spending within budget. Responsible for tracking employee activity, transfers and open positions on a monthly basis. Track position additions, eliminations, transfers between cost centers and related statistics. Annually, prepare headcount schedule for budget presentations. Audit overall activity report to the headcount schedule.

In conjunction with HR Director determine overall training/tuition/education plans for each year. Estimate annual spending allocation for training dollars. Track with finance on a monthly basis. Coordinate training with outside resources, approve cost, review content, logistics and process final billing.

Benefit Administration
Administer benefits program in conjunction with B-F corporate benefits to communicate all benefit changes to employees and ensure annual benefit enrollment process is timely and smooth. Develop, coordinate and provide benefit information meetings for all. Assist employees as needed to resolve complex claims issues. Review and assist in the distribution of corporate employee benefit communications.

General HR Support
Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures to meet the needs of the operation. In conjunction with HR Director, General Manager and Leadership team, ensure appropriate application of policy, good decisions and positive employee relationships. Support reward and recognition system that supports the business objectives, culture and mission. Works closely with managers to anticipate needs, provide ready guidance and assistance in human resources and employee relations matter for all employees. Promotes cooperation and builds relationships based on mutual trust and respect.

Must Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent work/education combination.
• Three to five years experience as HR generalist in production human resource management
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Working knowledge of federal and state employment and labor laws and other current Human Resource practices.
• Excellent project management skills
• Ability to interface and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
• High degree of self-awareness, accountability, credibility, confidentiality, integrity and professional ethics.
• Proven ability to communicate both verbally and in writing information and ideas to others.
• Ability to collaborate across the entire organization to accomplish the business goals.
• Proficient in Windows based computer programs, such as Word, Excel, Power Point, and the internet. Prior experience with HRIS computer systems preferred.

Preferred Experience:
• Prior knowledge/experience in Wine Industry/Agricultural field
• PHR or SPHR credentials preferred
