Job Description

Meaningful Work From Day One

Responsible for all winery, bottling, and warehouse operations and related activities to ensure the effective and profitable operation and growth for +500K cases facility, processing 9000 tons of grapes per year and includes management of 1.5M gallons of wine, and responsibility for 20,000 barrels. This position will be required to develop and oversee internal budgeting and cost control measures; develop strategic operational plans; review winery guidelines as they relate to industry regulations and compliance concerns. The position is also responsible for providing leadership and direction to the staff involved in winery operations and activities related to optimal employee relations management.

To be successful, this position will work closely and well in a team environment with EH&S, Human Resources, Quality, Winemaking Team, Supply Planning, Maintenance & Engineering, Vineyard Management, Grower Relations, Finance, and IT.

What You Can Expect

● In partnership with the EHS team, implement safety and improve environmental programs. Promoting and exemplifying the Culture of Caring by leading by example, active participation in all safety-related matters involving the winery operations, ensuring guidelines are followed and unsafe conditions are promptly addressed.

● Responsible for all aspects of personnel performance management, training and development for direct reports.

● Participate and support all D&I initiatives by acting as a change agent by actively engaging in this work and creating an environment of inclusive leadership.

● Ensure that all Standard Operating Procedures, SQF, GMPs, HACCP and facility regulatory standards are up to date and that all team members are aware of job requirements.

● Responsible for ensuring Housekeeping and Sanitation (HK&S) guidelines are met throughout the bottling operations and winery cellar.

● Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure all equipment is properly functioning and communicate maintenance priorities if any downtime occurs.

● Use of various database programs to organize the grape schedules, dry good purchases, and delivery orders. In conjunction with the HR Manager, work closely on the Talent Acquisition, retention, and offboarding process for the regular status and seasonal workforce. Track cellar and bottling results against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

● Work with the Material Planning and Procurement Manager, and the Winemaking Team to create an efficient bottling line schedule. In conjunction with the Bottling Supervisor, Maintenance, and Quality Manager review the bottling line OEE, packaging waste, and downtime to continually improve the bottling line performance.

● Work with the Winemaking Team to develop and implement short- and long-term work plans for the cellar including staffing arrangements.

● Work with the Winemaking and the Vineyard Operations team on grape and press schedules. Prioritize workload allocation and assign personnel accordingly. Must remain flexible to adapt to potential rapid change due to the nature of harvest conditions.

● Communicate and prioritize maintenance needs to the maintenance team to ensure all harvest equipment is properly functioning to avoid/ minimize any downtime.

● Promote active participation in the Continuous Improvement program.

● Utilizing enological and business acumen, challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including winemaking and operations best practices, safe work habits, alternative processes and workflow, cost reduction, quality enhancement, OEE, infrastructure/equipment modifications, environmental impact, and loss reduction. Offer recommendations to improve cellar and bottling processes to increase efficiencies and wine quality.

● Responsible for management of departmental budget (labor and expense) and schedule 4 reporting.

● Manage capital projects for a successful implementation in accordance with internal guidelines.

We Are Looking For People Who

Have a Bachelor's Degree in Enology, Engineering or related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in related positions, or 10 years related work experience in a similar role. Previous supervisory experience in production, cellar, and/or bottling environment required. Thorough knowledge and understanding of production, storage capabilities, transportation logistics, people management, and safety regulations. Bilingual English/Spanish required.
